Editorial policy
This policy covers every guide, calculator and listing page on randswitch.com, jobs.randswitch.com and cars.randswitch.com. RandSwitch is run by EasyGov (Pty) Ltd (registration number 2024/365166/07). Guides are published under the name "EasyGov (Pty) Ltd editorial team".
1. What we publish and why
We publish practical tools and guides for people in South Africa, with figures in rand. A page should help a reader make a real decision, such as accepting a remote job, choosing a car or deciding whether solar is worth it. We do not publish content just to fill a page.
2. How we research and write
- Original writing. Guides are written by us. We do not copy other publishers' text. Short quotations are marked and credited.
- Every number has a source. A figure in a guide must come from either our own tools and data (with the method published) or an official or primary source such as SARS, the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, NERSA, Eskom, a municipality, a provincial gazette, ICASA, or a manufacturer's official price list.
- We list sources with dates. Each guide ends with a Sources list giving the link and the date we opened it.
- We don't guess. If a figure is not published or we could not verify it, the guide says so plainly.
- Worked examples. Where we explain a calculation, we show the steps so you can check them.
- Plain South African English. We write for a general reader, explain jargon and use rand throughout.
- Not advice. Our tax, money and car content is general information. Where a decision depends on your own circumstances, we say so and suggest a qualified professional (for example a registered tax practitioner).
3. Use of automated tools
We may use software, including AI tools, to help collect data, check calculations or draft text. A person on our team reviews every guide before it is published, and the numbers must trace back to a listed source or our own published method. One tool on RandSwitch Jobs uses Cloudflare Workers AI to read a job title you paste in; that page explains how it handles your text.
4. Updates
- Every guide shows a "last updated" date.
- We review guides when an underlying figure changes, for example the SARS tax tables each Budget, the monthly fuel price adjustment, or new municipal electricity tariffs from 1 July.
- Our tools show when their data was last refreshed.
- When a guide is substantially rewritten, we update the date and keep the URL.
5. Corrections
Found something wrong? Email chetty.sagie@gmail.com with the page link and what you think is wrong.
- We check every report.
- We fix confirmed errors within two working days.
- Material corrections (ones that change a number, a verdict or advice) are noted on the page with the date.
- If a mistake changed a calculator's verdict, we also mention it in the next issue of our newsletter.
6. Independence: who pays, and who can't
RandSwitch is free to use. We earn money from:
| Source of money | How it is labelled |
|---|---|
| Paid job posts on RandSwitch Jobs (R349 to R1 799) | Featured posts are pinned and labelled Sponsored. Direct posts say "Posted on RandSwitch Jobs" |
| One sponsor slot per newsletter issue | Labelled Sponsored, with the sponsor's name |
| Display advertising, if and when we show it | Labelled Advertisement (see section 8) |
| Affiliate links, in future | Labelled Affiliate link · we earn a commission (see section 7). None are live on 1 November 2026 |
We do not take money from:
- car dealers, dealer groups or dealer-software companies, as sponsors, advertisers or job posters;
- car finance or car insurance companies, or car brands as sponsors;
- crypto or trading promotions.
We do not sell leads or pass your details to advertisers.
Nobody can pay for a ranking. Calculator results, eligibility labels, car comparisons and verdicts come only from our published method and data. Sponsors, advertisers and affiliate partners cannot change them.
7. Affiliate links
If we add affiliate links:
- each one carries the label "Affiliate link · we earn a commission" right next to it, not only in a footer;
- the link uses
rel="sponsored nofollow"; - affiliate links never appear inside a calculator result, a ranking or a verdict;
- we state facts only (what the service does, that fees apply, where to read the fees) and make no "best" or "cheapest" claims we cannot back up;
- financial products are only linked after we have checked the legal position.
Our guides themselves contain no affiliate links.
8. Advertising
If we show display advertising (for example from Google), ads:
- are labelled Advertisement and kept visually separate from our content;
- never appear inside calculator results or job listing details in a way that could be mistaken for our content;
- are chosen by the ad network, not by us, and do not mean we endorse the advertiser. We use the ad network's controls to block categories that conflict with section 6 where those controls allow it;
- may use cookies, as explained in our privacy notice at randswitch.com/privacy.
Advertisers have no say in what we write. On X, paid or sponsored posts start with #Ad or #Sponsored.
9. Job listings: sourcing, credit and link-back
Most listings on RandSwitch Jobs come from public remote-job sources: Jobicy, Himalayas, Remote OK, Remotive and Working Nomads. For these listings:
- we use each source's official feed or API and follow its terms;
- every listing names its source ("via Himalayas", for example) and links to the original posting;
- the Apply button goes to the original application page unchanged, with no extra tracking added by us;
- we never put listings behind a sign-up or make jobs conditional on joining our newsletter;
- we do not pass aggregated listings to other job search engines, and we only add structured job data for jobs posted directly with us;
- we don't receive CVs or applications for aggregated jobs: when you click Apply you leave our site, and the employer or source handles what you submit.
Eligibility labels ("South Africa confirmed", "Region", "Worldwide, check first") reflect what the listing says. We explain the rules in our guide on how we source and label listings. Never pay to apply for a job. Report suspicious listings to chetty.sagie@gmail.com and we will review them within two working days.
Paid job posts must be real, lawful and non-discriminatory vacancies. We do not accept fake or CV-collecting ads.
10. Privacy
We collect as little as we can. Our privacy notice at randswitch.com/privacy explains what we collect, why, and your rights under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
