Privacy
Privacy policy, in plain English
Effective 17 October 2026 (updated the same day to add the referral programme). This one policy covers all RandSwitch sites: randswitch.com, jobs.randswitch.com (RandSwitch Jobs, formerly RandRemote) and cars.randswitch.com (RandSwitch Cars), including the old randremote.com addresses that now forward here. We follow the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and collect as little as we can.
Who is responsible
RandSwitch is run by Sagie Chetty in South Africa, who is the responsible party and our Information Officer: Sagie Chetty, hello@randswitch.com.
What we collect, and why
- Your email address, only if you sign up for The Upgrade, the jobs weekly email, the cars weekly update, a model or brand price alert on the cars site, or the home power launch alert. We use it only to send what you asked for.
- Job post details, if you're an employer posting a job: company, job details, the apply link and your email for the receipt. Payments are handled by Paystack; we never see or store your card details.
- WhatsApp numbers: we no longer ask for these. A small number of people gave a number earlier, with a tick-box consent; those records are kept, nothing is being sent to them, and we'll delete yours on request.
- Approximate area: on the cars site, Cloudflare tells us the rough area of your internet connection with each request. We use it only to choose inland or coastal fuel prices in the switch tool, and you can change that choice. We don't store it and don't set a location cookie (an older location cookie from our retired dealer finder is cleared automatically).
- What you type into the tools (your current car, kilometres, budget): used to show your result and not saved by us.
- Server logs and basic request statistics kept by our host, Cloudflare, for security and to keep the sites running. We don't use advertising trackers or third-party analytics.
- Referral programme: when you join The Upgrade we create a random referral code for you. We store it with a one-way hash of your email (not the address itself) and copy the code and your share link to your Kit profile so it can appear in emails. If you arrive through a friend's link, a cookie called
rs_refholds their code for 30 days so the sign-up counts for them; they only ever see a count, never who joined. - On your own device: the jobs site keeps three small counters in your browser's local storage (rr_pv, rr_sub, rr_nbx) so the newsletter pop-up doesn't nag you. They never leave your device.
Where your information is stored (outside South Africa)
Email sign-ups are stored with our email provider Kit (Kit.com, United States). Our sites and databases run on Cloudflare's global network, so data may be processed outside South Africa. Paystack processes job post payments. We use these providers because they protect data to a standard comparable to POPIA, under their own data-processing terms, and we only share what each one needs to do its job.
Who we share it with
Nobody else. We never sell, rent or pass your details to car dealers, installers, lenders, insurers, employers or anyone else.
How long we keep it
Email sign-ups: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. Job post and payment records: as long as tax and accounting law requires. Server logs: as long as Cloudflare keeps them (usually days to weeks).
Your rights
- Unsubscribe with the link at the bottom of every email.
- See, correct or delete what we hold about you, or object to how we use it: email hello@randswitch.com and we'll reply within 30 days.
- If you're unhappy with how we handled it, you can complain to the Information Regulator.
Changes
If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top. Big changes will also be mentioned in The Upgrade.
